SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Despite losing to Union City (24-17) in the 2023 NJSIAA North Jersey Section 2 Group 5 Championship Game, Phillipsburg locked up the top spot in the final Big Central Gridiron Hunterdon-Warren County Top 10.
For the second straight year, the Stateliners rolled past Easton (47-12) in its annual Thanksgiving Day Game at Lafayette College’s Fisher Stadium. The Liners ended the 2023 season with double digit wins, and the most of any school in Hunterdon and Warren counties.
Hunterdon Central improved some from a year ago and ended the year in the number two spot while South Hunterdon climbed to third thanks to its 9-2 mark that included a state playoff win over Salem (16-6) and a hard-fought road win at Middlesex (12-7). The Eagles had the second-most wins of any team in the area.
