Hunterdon Central Defeats North Hunterdon in Season Opener
SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – On Saturday, the third and final day of Week 0, or opening week high school football action took place around the Big Central Conference as well as the rest of the Garden State. There were only four contests involving BCC schools on Saturday. Three of the games were against non-conference opponents.
The one contest involving only Big Central teams was the BCC Crossover between Hunterdon Central and North Hunterdon at Stewart Field in Flemington. The Red Devils won their second straight meeting in the all-time series versus the Lions with a 42-14 victory. Hunterdon Central now leads the all-time series 48-27-0. Junior RB Giovanni Feliz rushed 21 times for 152 yards and 3 TDs. Junior QB Drew Cella threw for three scores as well. Nick Vasquez hauled in two of those TD passes for the winners.
In other action, South River began the final day of BCC Week 0 action with a non-conference clash against Point Pleasant Beach and lost 28-0. The Rams will be back in action at Metuchen this coming Saturday. Plainfield fell to Newark East Side in the finale of the Mountaineer Classic in West Orange on Saturday night. E.J. Brown accounted for the lone Cardinals score with a first-quarter TD run.
In another showcase, St. Thomas Aquinas took on Mount St. Joseph of Baltimore in the Mid-Atlantic Pigskin Classic down in Delaware on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans fell behind 29-0 at halftime before rallying to lose by only 10. A bright spot in defeat for Aquinas was freshman quarterback Zymere Weaver, who completed 12 of 15 passes for 179 yards and 2 TDs while also catching an 18-yard TD pass from Josiah Zayas.
