Middlesex and South Brunswick Win on Thursday Night
SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – On Thursday, Week 1 of high school football action began around the Big Central Conference as well as the rest of the Garden State. There were only two contests involving BCC schools on Thursday. Both contests were BCC crossover games.
The Middlesex Blue Jays rebounded nicely from its opening week loss against Metuchen by rolling past Roselle Park. The Jays scored all 42 of its points in the first three quarters en route to a 42-8 victory. Senior QB, Dom Parenti turned in a superb performance by completing 5 of 8 passes for 170 yards and three touchdowns and rushing 10 times for another 127 yards and two scores.
Basketball standout, Julian Samuels caught 8 passes for 84 yards and a TD while Jax Jarvis scored on the ground with a 10-yard run and again on a 50-yard TD pass. Sean Downes added a 22-yard TD reception as well in the win. The victory was the first for new head coach Robert Swercheck. Middlesex now leads the all-time series 20-13 and has won the last 9 meetings dating back to 2004.
In another BCC crossover, South Brunswick rallied from a 21-7 second-quarter deficit to snap North Brunswick’s five-game winning streak in the series with a 30-21 win in a wild contest. The Vikings improved to 2-0 on the young season and defeated the Raiders for the first time since 2017. North Brunswick, which was ranked in many of the area Big Central polls, fell to 0-2.
Dawson Boateng was a huge factor on defense for the Vikings in the win. The senior defensive lineman returned an interception 90 yards for a TD, and a fumble recovery for 50 yards and another score. Julian Williams rushed for a TD while the South Brunswick defense also registered a safety. Zach Cipot was a bright spot in defeat for North Brunswick with 11.5 total tackles while Abdul Kargbo picked up two sacks.
