On Saturday afternoon, Woodbridge held on to defeat Colonia, 42-39 in one of the wildest games in the series between the two schools. The Barrons won their second straight and 6th of its last 9 versus its arch-rival. The Patriots still lead the series 29-25-4.

Barrons Win Wild One for 2nd Straight in Series

COLONIA, NJ – On Saturday afternoon, Woodbridge and Colonia met in a Big Central Conference Liberty Gold match-up at Colonia High School. The Barrons won a wild one, 42-39 over the Patriots after taking a 35-16 lead with 9:03 remaining in the third quarter. The win was Woodbridge’s second straight and 6th out of the last 9 over its arch-rival. It was the 58th meeting between the two schools.

Woodbridge senior RB Jahmir Beal rushed 15 times for 197 yards and 2 TDs. Barrons QB Derek Anderson completed 5 of 8 passes for 191 yards and 3 TDs. Bryan Anderson caught four of those passes for 115 yards and 2 TDs. Sincere Barner caught another for 76 yards and a score. Jeremiah Allen anchored Woodbridge’s defense with 11 total tackles and an interception that he returned for a touchdown.

Highlights from the 2009 edition of the Bragging Rights Game – Woodbridge won 19-6.

Colonia junior QB, Dylan Chiera countered by completing 19 of 27 pass attempts for 271 yards and 4 TDs. Nygel Hill hauled in a game-high 11 receptions for 144 yards and 2 TDs. Hill averaged 13.1 yards per catch. Kyle Bell rushed 19 times for 67 yards and a TD while catching four passes for another 48 yards and a score. Bell also returned three kickoffs for 53 yards to average 6.5 yards per touch.

Woodbridge remains undefeated at 4-0 while Colonia drops to 3-1 overall. Colonia leads the all-time series 29-25-4.  The Patriots and Barrons have played every year since 1967. Woodbridge won 3 of the first 5 meetings between the two schools with one tie in 1969. Then, Colonia won 13 of the next 19 games from 1972 to 1990. Woodbridge only won three times during that span with three ties in 1980, 1981, and 1987. 

Highlights from the 2011 edition of the Bragging Rights Game – Woodbridge won 23-19.

The Bragging Rights Game, as it is called, has since been fairly even. Woodbridge has won 19 of the last 34 contests. The Barrons had won 13 of 21 meetings from 1991 to 2011.
