Belvidere vs. South Hunterdon – Rivalry at a Glance

On Thursday night, South Hunterdon hosted long-time rival Belvidere in a Big Central Conference Freedom Silver Division match-up. Belvidere won the game by the score of 36-0 to snap South Hunterdon’s recent three-game winning streak in the series. The two schools have played each other every year since 1963 except for the 2018 season. This was the 66th meeting between the County Seaters and Eagles. Belvidere now leads the series, 38-28.

Belvidere Snaps South Hunterdon’s Three-Game Winning Streak

WEST AMWELL, NJ – On Thursday evening, Belvidere traveled down to South Hunterdon in the latest edition of this long-standing rivalry between the two schools. The Eagles had won the last three meetings and 4 of the last 6. However, this game was much different as Belvidere rolled to its fourth shutout of the season.

Led by senior QB, Kyle Blew, who completed 12 of 24 passes for 236 yards and 4 TDs while running for another, Belvidere converted three turnovers to take a 21-0 halftime lead. The County Seaters then added scores in the third and fourth quarters to wrap up the 36-0 victory. Sophomore Elijah White caught two TD passes and intercepted two while Mason Chamberlain and Luke Tipton also hauled in scoring receptions.

With the victory, Belvidere improved to 6-1 overall on the season including a 6-0 mark in conference play and a 4-0 record in the BCC’s Freedom Silver Division. Belvidere could clinch the division title if Middlesex loses at Bound Brook on Friday night. Otherwise, the Seaters and Blue Jays will have a showdown for the division crown in Belvidere on Saturday, October 26th at 1:30 PM.

Meanwhile, South Hunterdon fell to 3-3 overall and in conference including a 1-3 mark in divisional play. The Eagles have two regular season games remaining. Both contests will be on the road. South Hunterdon travels to Spotswood of the Freedom Gold Division next week, and then to Brian O’Neill Sr. Memorial Field at Columbia Park in Dunellen to face the Destroyers in its final division game.
