PISCATAWAY, NJ – On Tuesday afternoon, Big Central Gridiron will head over to Kenny Armwood Stadium at Piscataway High School to see the 2024 Big Central Middle School Championship Game. For the second straight year, Piscataway Middle School will be playing for and hosting this title game. A year ago, the Middle School Chiefs came up short to Union in the 2023 title game.
Over the past two seasons, Piscataway Middle School has been dominant. The Middle School Chiefs have compiled an overall record of 14-1 during the past two years. The only defeat was in last year’s Big Central Middle School Championship Game. This season, P-Way Middle School has posted a 7-0 mark including two wins over Plainfield and Franklin.
In the two games versus Plainfield, the Middle School Chiefs posted two shutouts while averaging 46 points per game. In the two victories over Franklin, Piscataway averaged 37 points per contest while yielding an average of just 6 per game. P-Way defeated Plainfield and Franklin in the regular season and the playoffs.
P-Way Middle School defeated Plainfield in the opening round of the tournament by the score of 44-0 on October 23rd at Kenny Armwood Stadium. The Middle School Chiefs then defeated Franklin for a second time in the semifinal round by a score of 44-6. Piscataway has outscored its opponents by an average margin of 44-3 in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
The Middle School Chiefs’ opponent in the title game this year is Elizabeth. The Middle School Minutemen earned the No. 2 seed in this year’s tourney and defeated Hillside in the first round and Crossroads of South Brunswick in the semifinals. Both wins were by a margin of 28-8. Crossroads Middle School of South Brunswick defeated defending champion, Union in its opening round game.
Franklin advanced to the semifinals by defeating 4th-seeded New Brunswick in the opening round. This year’s tournament expanded to eight teams after having only four a year ago. Back in 2023, Piscataway was the top seed while Franklin was No. 2, Union was third, and Crossroads was fourth. The Middle School Chiefs defeated Crossroads in the opening round (26-6) before falling to Union.
