BCG Game Preview – Morristown at Old Bridge – October 3, 2025

BCG Game Preview - Morristown at Old Bridge - October 3, 2025 - Knights vs. Sayreville in 2021.
The Old Bridge Knights will have better weather to deal with on Friday night against Morristown than in Big Central Gridiron’s last appearance at DeMarco Stadium in October 2021.

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – On Friday night, Big Central Gridiron will travel out to DeMarco Stadium at Lombardi Field in Old Bridge for the first time in four years for a non-conference match-up between Old Bridge and Morristown.ย  This is the second of a home-and-home series between the two schools.ย  Morristown won last yearโ€™s game held in Morris County.

Both teams are battling for playoff position in their respective sections.ย  Old Bridge is currently ranked 6th in South Group 5, while Morristown is ranked 11th in North Group 5.ย  If the regular season ended today, the Knights would likely be a 3rd seed in Central Jersey Group 5 or South Jersey Group 5.ย  Morristown would be either a 5th or a 6th seed in North Jersey Section 1 or 2.

Highlights from Old Bridge’s 14-7 victory over Monroe at Hugh P. Walsh Stadium in Monroe Township, two years ago this week.

The Knights have a potent attack led by senior QB Brody Nugent, who can beat you with both his arm and his legs.ย  Nugent has thrown for 925 yards and rushed for another 354 to lead the team in both passing and rushing while accounting for 73 percent of the scoring and 75 percent of the offensive yardage.ย

Junior RB Chase Rizzo (17 rushes for 166 yards and 2 TDs and 13 receptions for 263 yards and 2 TDs) and Amari Alsbrook (21 receptions for 379 yards and 5 TDs) are two key weapons at Nugentโ€™s disposal, while basketball standout, Cam Olivencia is the Knights’ third leading receiver (9 receptions for 128 yards and a TD). ย

Meanwhile, Morristown is led by the trio of junior QB Weston Elms (40 of 67 for 465 yards and a TD), sophomore RB Kenneth Sharperson (70 carries for 428 yards and 3 TDs), and senior wideout Jasaiah Brown (23 receptions for 362 yards and a TD).ย

Over his three-year varsity career, Brown has caught 67 passes for 1,185 yards and 10 TDs.ย  The Colonials are looking to get back up to .500 and get a quality win heading down the stretch.ย  Letโ€™s take a closer look at tonightโ€™s match-up.

Outlook

This is the second of a home-and-home series between the Knights and Colonials.ย  The two teams played a year ago at Morristown High School, with the Colonials coming away with a 14-7 victory.ย  This is also the second non-conference game of the season for the two schools. ย

Both played out-of-conference foes in their season openers, with Old Bridge defeating Cedar Creek (21-7) in the Battle at the Beach held at Rowan University, while Morristown fell to Summit at home (14-11).ย  Cedar Creek enters this week at 4-1 overall.ย  The Colonials have another non-conference game next week when they visit Elizabeth at Williams Stadium. ย

Last year, Morristown played Elizabeth twice, including an opening round game in the state playoffs, and lost both contests by a combined total of just three points.ย  Old Bridge has only lost one game this season, and it was on the road at Piscataway (28-21).ย  Morristown has won its two games against opponents with a combined record of 0-9.ย  The Colonials have lost their three games to foes with a combined record of 14-0. ย

Highlights of Old Bridge in action versus Sayreville in October 2021.

Old Bridgeโ€™s four wins have come at the expense of opponents with a combined mark of 8-12 while its lone defeat came against a 4-1 Chiefs team.ย  For many decades, the Knights and the Madison Central Spartans before them ran the triple-option under the direction of long-time head coach Bob DeMarco and his prized pupil, Anthony Lanzafama, who took over the program in 2010.

Current Knights head coach Matt Donaghue took over the program in 2022 and transformed the offense into the spread, and over the past two seasons, Old Bridge has begun to thrive with QB Nugent at the controls.ย  Old Bridge enters the contest averaging 32.6 points per game and 342.0 total yards per contest.ย  The Knights have outscored their foes by 23 points per game. while Morristown has been outscored by a margin of just under a touchdown per game.

BCGโ€™s Prediction:  Old Bridge wins 35-14.
