BCG Weather Report – September 30, 2026

Clouds lingered into Monday and Tuesday following last weekend’s nor’easter at Greg’s Weather Center in South Plainfield.

Heat and Humidity Creep Back in for One Last Stand in Week 5

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Last weekend, the heat and humidity that has dominated much of the weather during the first half of the 2026 New Jersey high school football season, took a back seat to a powerful Nor’easter that caused the postponement of a couple Big Central Conference games last Saturday.

The storm brought 2.74 inches of rain over several days to Greg’s Weather Center in South Plainfield, NJ.  It also unleashed winds between 55 and 60 miles per hour at times during the overnight hours on Saturday and Sunday.  The nor’easter had a bit of a tropical feel with an eye like feature forming, and also made landfall along the Jersey Shore much like Sandy did.

Thankfully, much of the Big Central Conference football slate for Week 4 was completed by the time the brunt of the storm arrived.  The only casualties were the Saturday games involving St. Joseph’s and Phillipsburg and Franklin and North Brunswick.  Both games were moved to Monday afternoon with the Falcons hosting the Stateliners at 3:00 PM in Metuchen, while the Warriors took on the Raiders at 6:00 PM.

In the wake of this past weekend’s Nor’easter, skies were unsettled and temperatures were down.  Clouds from the storm began to finally move away on Monday afternoon, but they still lingered into Tuesday.  Otherwise, the weather was pleasant on Tuesday.  On Wednesday, conditions further improved as the clouds gave way to more sun.  Temperatures increased though with a high of 76 following a morning low of 54.

The thermometer and humidity levels will be on the increase again on Thursday just in time for Week 5 action to kickoff.  There will be two contests involving BCC schools.  One will be between Roselle Park and Middlesex at Memorial Field in Middlesex at 6:00 PM.  The other will be the featured game for Big Central Gridiron between Rahway and South Brunswick at Madden Field in Rahway at 6:00 PM.

The GWC forecast is calling for a high of 78 on Thursday afternoon, but don’t be surprised if temperatures reach 80.  Friday is even expected to be warmer with highs in the low to mid 80s.  With the increase in heat and humidity, expect players to be afflicted with leg cramps.  Players will need to properly hydrate in anticipation for the warmer and more humid weather over the next couple days.

With the recent rainfall courtesy of the nor’easter at GWC, the total rainfall for the month of September is up to 6.28 inches.  This makes this month the fourth wettest September on record and the 15th wettest month of all time at GWC.  So far this year, there has been 103 days with a high of at least 80 at GWC this year.
