Bernards Junior wideout, Aidan Gribben hauls in a TD catch in the first half of the Mountaineers 42-7 victory at Governor Livingston on October 21st. The Mountaineers went coast to coast as BCG’s No. 1 Small School team in 2023.
Phillipsburg RB, John Wargo hurdles over an Easton defender during the Stateliners 47-12 victory over the Red Rovers on Thanksgiving. Phillipsburg ends the 2023 season as the No. 1 team in the final BCG Hunterdon-Warren County Top 10.
The Summit Hilltoppers were one of the highest scoring teams in the Big Central in 2023. Summit also reached the North Jersey Section 2 Group 3 semifinals, and finished No. 1 in Union County according to Big Central Gridiron.
Bernards had an historic season in 2023. The Mountaineers not only was the only Big Central school to win a sectional championship, but also won the most games in school history.
Senior RB Elijah Abass-Shereef was one of two 1,000 yard rushers at St. Thomas Aquinas this season. Abass-Shereef and fellow RB Chase Young led the Trojans to the top of the Middlesex County heap in 2023.
Being one of only two undefeated BCC teams, and with the best record in the conference, Bernards with senior WR/DB Jake Caldwell, moves to the top of the rankings.
Sophomore RB, Logan Stevens scores the first TD of the night for Bernards in its 48-0 win over Sussex Tech in the 2023 North Jersey Section 2 Group 2 Semifinals last Friday night. The 11-0 Mountaineers move up to the top of the polls for the first time ever.
For the first time ever, Bernards climbs to the top of the latest BCG Somerset County Top Ten. The Mountaineers will play for their first sectional title since playoff format was introduced in 1974 on Friday night.
