BCG Weather Report – August 30, 2025

Are you ready for some football? You couldn’t ask for better weather for the Big Central Gridiron Season Opener between Delaware Valley and Metuchen on Saturday afternoon.

Good morning.  Today, Big Central Gridiron kicks off its sixth season of covering football in the Big Central Conference.  BCG’s is heading over to Metuchen High School for the BCC crossover between the hometown Bulldogs from the Big Central’s Patriot Silver Division and the Delaware Valley Terriers of the BCC’s Patriot Gold Division.  

Both the Bulldogs and Terriers are coming off successful seasons a year ago, and are looking to kickoff the season in a big way with a victory.  The question is will the weather cooperate?  Looking at the latest data from Greg’s Weather Center in South Plainfield, NJ, and the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, the weather is going to be perfect for football this afternoon.  

Located in Northern Middlesex County, both Greg’s Weather Center and Metuchen High School have had below-average rainfall for the month of August 2025.  Coming into today, GWC has only received 1.98 inches of rainfall so far this month.  GWC received 5.82 inches last year and in 5.67 inches in 2023 so Northwestern Middlesex County is running well below average in terms of rainfall this time of year.

Meanwhile, at Metuchen High School, located a few miles to the southeast of GWC, there has been even less rainfall this month.  As of this morning, only 1.02 inches of rain has fallen at a weather station nearby in Metuchen, NJ.  The station reported 4.68 inches of rain in August last year, and 5.01 inches in 2023.  The seven-year average rainfall for August at this weather station in Metuchen is 3.55 inches.

This week’s weather has been perfect in Northern Middlesex County.  After a brutal summer of hot and humid weather coupled with several rounds of potent and even deadly severe storms, it has been a much-welcome change.  The weather since Tuesday has been a preview of fall with high temperatures ending up in the upper 70s to low 80s with low humidity under mostly sunny skies.

There is more good news.  After Hurricane Erin came up the East Coast and brought gusty winds and rough surf at the Jersey Shore last week, the tropics are surprisingly quiet for this time of year.   Those tranquil conditions are expected to last for at least another week.  However, keep in mind that the statistical peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season is September 10th, and the last several seasons have seen a lot of activity on the back end.
