Thanksgiving Day Schedule Shrinks Again

There are only two Thanksgiving Day games left on the schedule in the Big Central Conference: Phillipsburg vs. Easton and Roselle vs. Roselle Park.

With Plainfield-Westfield Game Moving, Only Two BCC Turkey Day Games Remain

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The Big Central Conference’s Thanksgiving Day Schedule Shrinks Again.  With one of the longest-running Thanksgiving Day Games in the Garden State, Plainfield-Westfield moving to Week 0 this year, and Week 8 in years going forward, there are now only two BCC games left on the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Roselle will travel to Roselle Park on Thanksgiving morning, while Phillipsburg and Easton will meet at Lafayette College’s Fisher Stadium on the holiday as well.  Take a look at this year’s Thanksgiving holiday football schedule in the Big Central Conference.

With the changing state playoff format in recent years and the shift of the regular season schedule to late August, many schools across New Jersey have decided to discontinue the holiday football tradition.  The Greater Middlesex Conference schools in the Big Central ended their traditional Thanksgiving rivalry games back in 2018, although St. Thomas Aquinas played Immaculata in 2023, and St. Joseph’s played Rahway on Thanksgiving Eve in 2020.  The Skyland Conference schools also did the same around the same time, although Bernards hosted Immaculata on Thanksgiving Eve in 2020.

When Big Central Gridiron launched in 2021, there were four games on Thanksgiving.  BCG did a Thanksgiving Buffet of coverage by taking in pieces of three of the games.  The following year, New Providence and Governor Livingston moved their annual rivalry game to Week 1, where it has remained.  The holiday schedule in the BCC had been three games during the Thanksgiving Eve and Thanksgiving Day period, with the only exception in 2023 when St. Thomas Aquinas took on Immaculata at the Torpey Sports Complex in Bridgewater on Thanksgiving Eve.

Big Central Gridiron plans to continue its tradition of covering high school football on this holiday.  This Thanksgiving, BCG will visit Herm Shaw Field in Roselle Park to see the Panthers host Roselle in the latest edition of their annual rivalry.
